There are times in life when you know you need to make a change.

Maybe it's your career. Maybe it's your finances. Maybe it's a business you've been thinking about starting. Maybe it's simply the realization that the way you've been living isn't the way you want to continue living.

You know something needs to change.

But then comes the question:

“What do I do next?”

And sometimes that question becomes so overwhelming that we don't do anything at all.

We tell ourselves we need a better plan.

More information.

More money.

More experience.

More confidence.

Maybe we even convince ourselves that we need to know exactly where we're going before we're willing to take the first step.

But here's something I've been learning while building ReBuildry:

You don't need the entire plan to take the next step.

You just need enough clarity to move forward.

We Want Certainty Before We Start

I think one of the reasons starting something new can be so difficult is that we want certainty.

We want to know that the business will work.

We want to know that the decision we're making is the right one.

We want to know that our effort will eventually pay off.

But life rarely gives us that kind of guarantee.

When you're rebuilding, you're often working with incomplete information.

You make the best decision you can with what you know today—and then you learn from what happens tomorrow.

That's not failure.

That's progress.

Think About Building a House

Imagine you're building a house.

You don't stand on the empty lot and somehow see every brick, every wall, every electrical wire and every finished room perfectly laid out in front of you.

You have a blueprint.

You have an idea of what you're building.

But construction still happens one step at a time.

One foundation.

One wall.

One brick.

Then another.

Then another.

Building a business—or rebuilding your life—works much the same way.

You need direction.

But you don't need perfect visibility.

Sometimes the next brick is all you need to see.

That's What I'm Learning With ReBuildry

ReBuildry is still being built.

I'm not writing these newsletters from some mountaintop where everything has already worked out.

I'm building this while working a full-time job.

I'm learning.

I'm experimenting.

I'm making mistakes.

I'm figuring things out as I go.

And honestly, that's part of why I wanted ReBuildry to exist in the first place.

There are plenty of people willing to tell you what it looks like after they've succeeded.

I want to talk about what it looks like while you're still building.

Because that's where most of us actually live.

We're somewhere between where we started and where we want to be.

And that middle ground can be uncomfortable.

But it can also be where some of the most important growth happens.

Stop Waiting for the Perfect Next Step

Maybe you've been thinking about starting something.

Maybe you've been considering changing careers.

Maybe you've wanted to create a business, start exercising, learn a new skill, write a book, repair a relationship, or simply become a different version of yourself.

And maybe you've been waiting.

Waiting until the timing is right.

Waiting until you're more prepared.

Waiting until you know exactly what to do.

But what if you stopped asking:

“What's the entire plan?”

And started asking:

“What's the next step?”

Those are two very different questions.

The first can paralyze you.

The second can move you.

Your Next Brick

You don't have to rebuild everything today.

You don't have to have your five-year plan completely figured out.

You don't have to know exactly how every chapter of your story will end.

You just need to decide what the next brick looks like.

Maybe it's making the phone call.

Writing the business idea down.

Creating the first product.

Taking the class.

Having the difficult conversation.

Applying for the job.

Starting the workout.

Opening the business account.

Writing the first page.

Whatever it is, take the next step.

Then evaluate.

Learn.

Adjust.

And take another one.

That's how things get built.

That's how businesses grow.

That's how lives change.

One decision.

One action.

One brick at a time.

Keep Building

If you're currently in a season where you don't know exactly what's next, don't mistake uncertainty for failure.

You may not have the whole picture yet.

That's okay.

You don't need the whole picture.

You need enough courage to take the next step.

You don't have to see the entire road. You just have to know where to place the next brick.

And then place it.

Keep building.
